A cold floor when you step out of bed in the morning, echo in the living room, or a child's room that could use some softness: fixed carpet immediately changes the comfort of a space. But what exactly does fixed carpet cost? The short answer: the price depends on the material, quality, area, and installation. For a beautiful floor that feels pleasant for years, it’s wise to look beyond just the price per square meter.
What does fixed carpet cost per m²?
In Belgium, you can generally expect to pay around €15 to €80 or more per m² for just the carpet. A decent synthetic carpet for a bedroom or dressing room often starts in the lower price range. Choosing a denser pile, extra soft fibers, wool, or a distinctly luxurious look will naturally increase the price.
The difference is not only in how the carpet looks. The fiber, yarn density, backing, and finish together determine how soft, durable, and easy to maintain your floor will be. An affordable carpet can be perfect for a quiet guest room. In a busy hallway, on stairs, or in a family home with playing children and pets, a stronger quality is usually the better investment.
Keep in mind that the price is often calculated based on the full required roll width. Fixed carpet is usually supplied in a fixed roll width, for example 4 or 5 meters. If your room is 3.30 meters wide, you typically pay for the full width, resulting in cutting waste. An accurate measurement prevents surprises.
Price differences: material and quality
Synthetic fixed carpet: affordable and practical
Polypropylene, polyester, and polyamide are commonly used synthetic fibers. They offer an attractive price-quality ratio and are often resistant to stains and daily use. This makes them popular in bedrooms, children’s rooms, and apartments where comfort and ease of maintenance are equally important.
Polypropylene is generally affordable and colorfast. Polyester often feels notably soft and fits nicely in a bedroom where a cozy feeling is key. Polyamide is very durable and elastic, making it a strong choice for heavily used spaces. Within synthetic carpets, prices can vary significantly even if two samples look similar at first glance.
Wool carpet: natural comfort with a higher price
Wool has a warm, rich appearance and natural resilience. The material helps dampen sound, feels comfortable, and can give an interior a particularly refined atmosphere. This comes with a higher purchase price, often starting around €45 per m² and increasing depending on quality and composition.
A wool carpet also requires more thoughtful choice in spaces where spills are common. It’s beautiful in a quiet bedroom or stylish living room. For a dining room with young children, a low-maintenance synthetic option can sometimes bring more peace of mind in daily life.
Pile height, density, and backing make the difference
A high-pile carpet feels wonderfully soft and luxurious but is not always the most practical option. Chairs slide less easily over it, and dust or crumbs can settle deeper into the fibers. Low-pile fixed carpet is generally easier to vacuum and suitable for high-traffic areas.
Also pay attention to density. The fuller and firmer the fibers are processed, the better the carpet usually retains its shape. The backing is also decisive: it provides stability and affects walking comfort. These are details you don’t always see in a product photo but feel every day.
What does the installation of fixed carpet cost?
Besides the carpet itself, there is installation. For professional installation, expect about €10 to €30 per m², depending on the subfloor, the room, and the chosen installation method. A rectangular bedroom with a flat, prepared floor is installed faster than a room with many corners, radiators, built-in closets, or stairs.
Fixed carpet can be laid loose with tape or stretch bars, or fully glued down. Full gluing gives a very tight result and is often recommended in heavily used spaces. Loose installation can be interesting in certain situations because the carpet is easier to remove later. Which method suits best depends on the subfloor and your plans for the home.
Don’t forget preparatory work. An uneven subfloor sometimes needs to be leveled before the carpet can be installed. Removing old flooring, loosening or reinstalling skirting boards, and shortening doors can increase the total price. Always ask for a clear quote that separately lists materials, cutting waste, subfloor, installation, and any finishing work.
Example calculation for a bedroom
Suppose you want to cover a 16 m² bedroom with a soft, decent fixed carpet. You choose a quality synthetic carpet at €30 per m². The material alone then costs about €480, although the required roll width may slightly increase the calculated area.
For installation at, for example, €15 per m², add about €240. If a subfloor or minor preparatory work is needed, it’s best to budget extra. In this example, the total amount often falls between €750 and €1,000. This is not a fixed price but a realistic way to plan ahead.
For a small room, the price per m² can feel higher due to cutting waste and fixed costs for transport or installation. For larger, simple surfaces, the price per m² is often more favorable. Therefore, never compare only a total amount without checking exactly what is included.
Where is fixed carpet best chosen?
Fixed carpet works especially well in spaces where warmth, silence, and a soft feeling underfoot are desired. In a bedroom, it immediately creates a calm, inviting base. In a dressing room, it makes the daily morning routine more pleasant. Also on an upper floor or in a home office, carpet helps reduce footstep noise and echo.
In the living room, fixed carpet can give a very warm, hotel-like appearance, but think carefully about your family situation. Those who often receive guests, have young children, or pets at home are best off choosing a low-pile, stain-resistant quality in a mixed shade. This is more forgiving than a very light solid color.
For kitchens, bathrooms, and other damp areas, fixed carpet is usually less suitable. Water, grease splashes, and intensive maintenance outweigh the extra comfort. A loose rug can be a more practical alternative there.
Smart savings without compromising comfort
Saving money doesn’t automatically mean choosing the cheapest roll. Rather, choose a quality that fits the room’s use. A high-quality carpet in a quiet bedroom may not be necessary, while in a hallway it’s better not to skimp on durability.
A calm color or timeless texture stays beautiful in your interior longer than a striking trendy color you quickly tire of. Also ask about available remnants if you want to cover a small room. These can be attractively priced, provided the dimensions and pile direction match your space.
At Omid Carpets, we believe a beautiful floor doesn’t have to be out of reach. By measuring in advance, viewing samples in your home’s light, and honestly assessing how much use a room will get, you choose with more confidence and a budget that fits.
The best choice ultimately doesn’t start with the lowest price per m² but with the feeling you want to experience every day when you come home: warm, quiet, and perfectly suited to your family.
